Doctrinal Statement
The basis of fellowship and ministry of the Haiku Bible Church is the common adherence to a particular doctrinal position as herein set forth.
-
We believe the whole Bible, containing sixty-six books in both the Old and New Testaments, to be the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of God’s will for the salvation of man and the supreme and final authority for all Christian faith, life, and conduct.
Luke 24:27, 44; John 5:39; Mark 12:26, 36; 13:11; Acts 1:16; 17:2-3; 18:28; 26:22-23; I Corinthians 2:13; 10:11; 2 Timothy 3:16-17: 2 Peter 1:20-21; 3:15-16
-
We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three (3) persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that they are equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.
Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4-5; I Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:6; I Timothy 1:17; Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19; John 3:5; 4:24; 10:30; 15:16-17, 26
-
We believe the Scriptures testify of the Lord Jesus Christ, and His person, and His work in His first and second comings. We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin; that He died on the cross, thereby being a perfect and complete sacrifice for the sins of all mankind; and that He rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, where He is now seated on the right hand of the Majesty on high and ever lives to intercede as our High Priest and Advocate
(Luke 1:35; Hebrews 4:14-16).
-
We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Ghost in a miraculous manner. He was born of Mary, a virgin, as no other man was ever born or can be born of a woman. He is both the Son of God, and God the Son.
(Genesis 3:15; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:14; Romans 3:25; Galatians 4:4; Hebrews 10:1-10; I John 2:2; 4:10)
-
We believe that without the shedding of Christ’s blood there is no remission for the sins of mankind
(Romans 3:24-26; Hebrews 9:22).
-
We believe that men are justified by faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, and that only by regeneration of the Holy Spirit can salvation and eternal life be obtained.
John 3:3, 5; Acts 13:38-39; Romans 3-24-25; 5:1; Colossians 1:14)
-
We believe that Jesus Christ rose bodily from the grave and that the resurrection provides the only ground of justification for all who believe. We believe in the physical resurrection of all men, the saints to everlasting joy and bliss, and the wicked to conscious and eternal torment.
Acts 2:32-36; I Timothy 2:5; I Corinthians 15: 21-22; Revelations 20:4-15
-
We believe in the personal, pretribulational, premillennial return of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will come in the air and call all believers, His Church, to be with Him. This blessed hope has a vital influence on the personal life and service of the believer; and 7 years after His return for the Church, Christ will then return to the earth with His saints to establish His Millennial Kingdom.
Acts 1:11; I Corinthians 15:51-52; I Thessalonians 1:10; 4:16-17; Revelations 19:11-21
-
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, equal with God the Father and God the Son, and of the same nature. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He regenerates, baptizes into God’s family; seals, indwells, fills, enlightens, guides and empowers the believer for godly living and service.
Luke 1:35; John 14:16-17, 26; 16:8, 13-14; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 2:9-12; 3:16; 12:13; Ephesians 5:18; 2 Thessalonians 2:7
-
We believe that God gives spiritual gifts to all believers. Some gifts of the Holy Spirit are permanent and are to be used to build up the body of believers. Other gifts were temporary sign gifts and were given during the time of the Apostles for the founding of the Church. Therefore having fulfilled their purpose they are no longer necessary.
Ephesians 1:13-14; Romans 6:1-11; 8:33-39; 12:3-8; I Corinthians 12:13-14; 13:8-10; 14:21-22; 2 Corinthians 12:12; Hebrews 1:1-2; 2:3-4; I Peter 1:2-4
We believe that God does hear and answer the prayer of faith, according to His own will, for the sick and afflicted.
I Corinthians 12:7-11; Ephesians 4:7-12; 2 Corinthians 12:12; James 5:15
-
We believe that the Church, which is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again believers, is the Body of Christ of which Christ is the Head. We believe that the purpose of the Church is to glorify God by building up the body of Christ to be His witnesses to the whole world
Matthew 28:19-20; I Corinthians 12:12; Ephesians 1:22-23
We believe that the New Testament teaches the goal of establishing local, independent churches. Each church is to govern itself, make its own decisions, and determine its own procedures. However, the independence of the local church in no way hinders fellowship with churches of like faith and practice.
I Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9
-
We believe that water Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Table are ordinances to be observed by the Church. They are, however, never to be regarded as a means to salvation.
Acts 8;12, 38; 10:48; I Corinthians 11:23-28
-
We believe that man was directly created by God in His own image and likeness. He was created in innocence, but fell into sin. The entire human race, therefore, became alienated from God, and is eternally lost. The natural man is unable to remedy his lost condition
Genesis 3:1-6, 22-24; Romans 3:10-19, 23; Romans 5:12-21; Ephesians 2:1-3; Galatians 3:22
-
We believe that all truly born-again believers, regenerated by the Holy Spirit, are eternally secure in Christ and shall never come into judgment. While it is the believer’s privilege to rejoice in the assurance of salvation, this is not cause for license or liberty to sin in the flesh.
John 10:28-29; Romans 8:38-39; Ephesians 1:13-14
-
We believe that all redeemed ones are called into a life of separation from all worldly and sinful practices.
Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 6:14; James 4:4; I John 2:16
-
We believe that all regenerated believers possess two natures and that all claims to the eradication of the old nature in this life are unscriptural.
Romans 6:13; Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:1-10; I Peter 1:14-16; I John 3:5-9
-
We believe in the personality of Satan; that he is the author of sin and the cause of man’s fall; that he is the enemy of God and man; and that he is doomed and shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire.
Job 1:6-7; Ephesians 6;11-12; Revelations 20:10
-
We believe that life begins at conception, and that an unborn life is a living human being at all times from that moment forward.
Psalm 127:3; Genesis 17:16; 21:2; 25:21; I Samuel 1:19-20; Ruth 4:13; Judges 13:3; Job 10:8-11; 12:9; 31:15; 33:4; Psalm 22:9; 100:3; 139:13-15; Isaiah 44:1, 24; Jeremiah 1:5
We believe that the abortion of an unborn child, at any time during pregnancy, constitutes the unjustified and unexcused murder of an unborn human life. We believe that rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth control, population control, or the mental well-being of the mother are not acceptable justifications for abortion. We believe, however, that abortion may be justified in those very rare occasions when the mother’s life is legitimately at risk.
Genesis 9:6; Exodus 20:13; Deuteronomy 27:25; Psalm 82:3; Proverbs 6:16
-
We believe that marriage is ordained of God and is to be a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman, ending only on the death of one or both of the spouses (Mark 10:2-9); I Corinthians 7:39). Although we believe the Scriptures teach that divorce is permissible on the grounds of fornication (Matthew 5:32: 19:9), we also believe that a believer has the Scriptural responsibility to forgive the unfaithful spouse and to attempt reconciliation and restoration before resorting to divorce. We further believe that when a non-believing spouse chooses to divorce a believing spouse, the believing spouse is released from the bonds of marriage and is not bound to stay married to the unbelieving spouse
I Corinthians 7:10-16).
While we believe that God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16) and the divorce is contrary to His will as taught in the Scriptures, we recognize that God will forgive any divorced person upon his/her genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, and upon a believer’s sincere confession and repentance.
-
We believe that God designed sexual activity to be between one man and one woman in the bonds of marriage to each other. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, incest, fornication, adultery, bestiality, and pornography are perversions of God’s design for sex as we understand the Scriptures.
Genesis 2:24; 19:5, 13; 26: 8-9; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; I Corinthians 5:1; 6:9; I Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4
We believe these perversions are sinful and contrary to God’s will, we recognize that God will forgive any person involved in such activities upon his/her genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, and upon a believer’s sincere confession and repentance of such perversions.
